When and how was your band created?
2008-9 was probably the real start, even though most of the members knew each other from before that and some had played together as well. There was a time when it was a side project and played a simpler and more melodic kind of music, something closer to Finntroll or early In Flames, but then it became the only band, the priorities shifted and thus it just had to be death metal. Lead guitarist Malējs and bass player Motors were there through all the line-up changes that happened early on.
Why did you call your band like this and what is the meaning of the name?
"Malduguns" is Latvian for "will o' the wisp" or "ignis fatuus". It was chosen as a symbol for the spiritual quests and mental torments that permeate people's lives. All that which may be true, but may also prove to be an illusion. Most of our lyrics deal with those kinds of things too.
Which bands have the influence on your creation?
We love the classic death metal greats - Death, Atheist, Carcass... Some prog metal/rock. It's all kinds of music, really. Some of us are very much into old Megadeth. Dave and the way he puckers his upper lip have been mentioned often in merry, drunken conversations.:) Anyway, this far people who have heard us have found it quite hard to come up with direct comparisons to any band(s).
Who creates music and lyrics in your band?
The majority of lyrics are by our former vocalist. Music in it's primal form comes mostly from Malējs, our lead guitar player, but everyone is important in it's twists and turns as it reaches it's final presentation. Our drummer's patience is admirable sometimes, when everyone starts "editing" his parts. We also gladly cooperate with coincidence and mind altering substances.
What can be expected of you in „Metalinis Speigas IV"?
Songs from our first album "Pēddzinis" as well as a few newer ones, maybe a cover or two from classic favorites. Basically just five guys performing Metal with feeling and intent!
Your concluding remarks.
Old Latvian words of wisdom - if in the night you have an itchy arse, the next morning you're going to have smelly hands!
